Nov 2, 2015 1:51 PM in response to Frodo Livesby babowa,So a program that encrypts your password could help with this problem.
Any site where the URL starts with "https" is already using encryption.
There is no software that will or can protect you from hackers hacking into your or a friends' account (or government sites or anywhere else). Once they steal your email address, it is quickly sold and resold - real email addresses are valuable to spammers who will use it to send out spam using a real FROM address. I've been getting that for years with my Yahoo account which has been hacked into several times - and I also do get spam from me to me. The ONLY way to stop it is to abandon that email address, open another account with a different address and a very difficult to guess password, such as HiR%*ne$l:0&mW.
So, there is no failproof protection; the best protection is the person operating the computer observing safe online browsing methods.

Nov 2, 2015 2:11 PM in response to JimmyCMPITby Frodo Lives,I'm trying out Webroot. I've run into a couple of issues with the program itself which turned out to be largely caused by my inexperience and which were resolved by a good support tech. On the phone no less. And I'm pretty sure that the problems I'm having with El Capitan have not been caused by the Webroot program. For example: When I make changes to an email draft I can only see the changes while I'm working on it. They don't show up when I save and close the window and am just viewing it. Also: split screen doesn't seem to be working. Though that might be caused by my lack of experience with it. I've got some other issues, but haven't tracked them well enough to comment on them. Given the latter two factors I'm sticking with El Capitan for now. Especially since reverting to a previous OS would be such a pain. Sadly Apple's support, even for new products is virtually non-existent these days.
