hp photosmart 7260 - can't install

Hey Everyone!

I'm trying to install a brand new, but older, HP Photosmart 7260 on my 2007 iMac running 10.8.5 and can't get installed.

When I go into print & scan and click the + icon, the add dialog appears and has the correct printer listed - HP Photosmart 7200 series - USB.

I highlight it, click add, and it says "setting up hp 7200 series…"…it says "finding software…" then I get the error:

"Can't install the software for the HP Photosmart 7200 series because it is not currently available from the software update server."

The printer IS listed as being available.

Then I download a file from Apple 'hpprinterdriver3.1.dmg" - which is 583mb. I installed it - it said it would be over 1gb of space. But I can't find

what it did, what it installed, where it is - there is nothing in my applications, can't find a path, don't even know how to delete it.

Can anyone help me out with this? I'd like to get this printer installed and delete that 1gb of drivers that was installed 🙂

Thanks!

Rob
