Nov 3, 2015 5:28 AM in response to Barry Hemphillby Loftus65,Thanks folk. I popped into PC World and got a new Superdrive having been told by Apple Support that the Superdrive was most likely the problem.
The new one did the same.
However, when I start the MacBook with the Superdrive plugged in and then insert a disc it registers in Finder. Until then it does not. But I need to start it with the Superdrive plugged in.
It would seem that this is a problem with El Capitan and that Apple are aware of it??
Hopefully a fix will be on the cards soon.
II would not know what to do with the SMC?? Thanks for all replies.
