How are you trying to connect them, and what exactly are you attempting to do?
Please provide as much detail as possible.
NNeed to use the Computer app on the Apple TV, and ensure your Mac is using the same Apple ID. I can see all my macs fine from the TV. Are you trying to do it the other way? Mac to TV?
I have an apple tv 3rd. generation. When i connect the apple tv box via a usb connection on my mac, should i not get an indication on the mac that an outside source has been connected. much like your camera, phone, cd, etc? I am trying to download an app onto the apple tv.
No, sorry it does not work like that. The Micro USB port on the back of your Apple TV is for service only.
I am a little confused on what you're trying to accomplish. Are you trying to use the Apple TV on your Mac? If so, there is no reason. There is not much your Apple TV can do that your Mac cannot also do through your iTunes account. All your purchased movies/TV shows can be viewed in iTunes on the Mac. If you use things like Netflix, HBO Go, MLB app etc on the Apple TV, their are free Mac clients for them.
The USB connection is only there to restore the Apple Tv in case of issues.
Restore your Apple TV using iTunes - Apple Support
Also, there are no Apps for 3rd gen Apple TVs that you can install. Its not an iPhone or iPad, or a 4th Gen Apple Tv.
You simply cannot install Apps onto it.
Whichever Apps are available in your region for Apple Tv will appear on the Tv screen directly.
Thanks PhilO. I was trying to get Kodi on the apple tv.
Kodi requires the Apple Tv be hacked to install it, and as such will void any warranty, and forfeit any support form these forums. We cannot help you with that.
Got it !!! Thanks again
