Though it does seem strange that if you never signed up for the free trial that you would get billed. But from what I have read they have been very good at refunding mistakes.

With that said, You, or someone else using your Apple ID had to have clicked on something, and agreed to the terms, Apple music doesn't just enable itself.
Are you sure its Apple Music that was billed?
