7th generation nano wont turn on or off as it is suppose to.

I have a 7th generation nano that is only a few months old. It worked well for the 1st month. Now when I turn it off and try to turn it back on next day it won't respond. I have to plug in the charger to get it to respond . After I have gotten it to turn on by plugging in the charger it often will not turn off again. This is so frustrating. The battery shows a full charge. How can I fix this problem or can I return it for a new one?
