Apple has a long history of limiting user options to what they think is the best use of their hardware and software. This is not a matter of defending Apple but of pointing out a historical trend. You can agree with that design philosphy or not. If you don't, submit your feedback to Apple. Sometimes they change their minds. Often, they don't. In the meanwhile, either deal with the iPad as it exists or sell it and buy something that better meets your needs.

    Best of luck.

Its not about what the consumer should do, its about what the product pusher should do which is make products consumers want - a bluetooth mouse that works with an ipad is the simplest easiest thing they could do. And people want it. But they don't want to give it to them because they want you to reach just a little further and spend just a little more.  They reason they won't provide mouse support is the same reason they won't provide simple access to the file system on the ipad or even the basic ability to transfer files via the data port.  The iPad is reversing technological innovation. And its disappointing cause it could be something great.  The technology is there, its just been forbidden by the gatekeepers.

An opinion I certainly disagree with.

There are plenty of applications that could benefit from the use of a bluetooth mouse.  Certain functions are simply faster and/or easier when using a mouse versus your finger on the screen. Besides, what's wrong with mixing it up from time to time?

That's a fair point, but then you risk a fragmentation of the interface that can become a bit disjointing for its consumers. Playing this out, Apple would almost certainly put in requirements that if App Developers build for the mouse's integration within their apps, that no utilization of that use can used in a way that cannot be replicated by the use of the users finger. If App Developers were free to build their Apps to primarily be used with mouse support, then that forces users to purchases additional accessories.  As an example of this, I will use the new Apple TV which requires developers to design their apps to be fully used with only the Apple Remote that came with it.

I have to agree with this ideology from a personal perspective. It's just my opinion.

You do realise that since iOS 9, Apple has bulit into the iOS software keyboard the ability to turn that entire software keyboard area into a giant trackpad.

    You ought to try this.

    Works great!

That feature only works on 3D Touch-enabled devices, and that includes only the new iPhone 6s/6s Plus. iPads and all other iPhones do not have this capability.

In case anyone is still interested, the Swiftpoint GT Mouse also works with Remotix, an app by Nulana. It's multiplatform (Windows, Linux, and OS X), uses VNC and RDP protocols, the app itself is universal, and the best part about it is that the new update of Remotix 6.0 offers a $50 discount on the Swiftpoint GT Mouse. By downloading the app, you get a link within the app to get a coupon code. It brings the final cost of the Swiftpoint GT Mouse down to $99. WRONG!!!!!

    COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY WRONG!!!

Get yer facts straight before you post your opinions, here!

The trackpad feature works on ALL, and I DO MEAN ALL, IPad models that can run the latest iOS 9.

It works on all iPads from the iPad 2 and up!

I am using my iPad 2 to post to your statement error and this feature works very well, thank you very much!

It works on my iPad 3 and my friend's iPad 4, also.

Find an iPad 2 on iOS 9 and try this feature out for yourself!

Also, these are stock Apple iPads, NOT jailbroken!

I do not jailbreak any of my iDevces, EVER!

This trackpad feature works across every iPad model that can, currently, run, the latest iOS 9.

This is, actually, one of the very few useful features older iPad models get!

So, you are very mistaken about what iDevices get this feature!

The trackpad feature of the iOS software keyboard works EXACTLY the same across every iPad model that runs iOS 9.

You can move the I beam text insertion cursor anywhere you want when you are inputting text.

You can position it accurately to edit words, phrases, whole sentences, whole paragraphs or whole body of text, etc.

Works just like a normal trackpad feature except you get the entire software keyboard area as your trackpad!

Yeah it actually works on my iPhone 6s too. This use still functions within the iPad and doesn't require the user to purchase an external mouse though. I would just find that to be clunky to make that available For the reasons I explained earlier.

The REAL Answer is yes if you want to use apps like Jump Desktop and Clitrix there are a few mouse's that are compatable with the iPad Pro

    the Swiftpoint GT

    and the

    Citrix X1 mouse

both bluetooth mouses work fine with the iPad and I have no issues.

please be aware that iPad mouses are App specific if the app doesnt' suppose the mouse then you can't use it.

Actually, that would be 2, not "a few". And each of those works with only a single app - their own remote connection app.  Neither of those provides mouse support in iOS for third party iOS apps at all.  They are able to provide a mouse interface with a remotely connected computer, and that is their sole functionality in iOS.  They do not "provide mouse support for iPad Pro".

This thread has become very confusing to people IMO.  While there are apparently at least 2 devices associated with 2 specific apps that provide mouse support in a Remote Desktop session with an external machine, there is no app or device that provides mouse support for iOS or any app running in iOS on the iOS device itself.

So the people responding "yes there is" need to be fair and clear to readers that the solutions they are referring to provide a very, very limited form of mouse support - that is, mouse support in specific 3rd party remote connection apps, to drive a mouse cursor on the Remote Desktop itself.  These solutions, in no way at all, change the fact that the device and iOS itself are otherwise a strictly touch interface system.

Many people in this thread have been primarily asking for the latter - they want a mouse interface for iOS (like they have in OS X) in place of the touch interface currently provided.  And there is NO support for that at all.

I'll repost and bold 2 sections of Michael's previous post to make it as clear as possible:

While there are apparently at least 2 devices associated with 2 specific apps that provide mouse support in a Remote Desktop session with an external machine, there is no app or device that provides mouse support for iOS or any app running in iOS on the iOS device itself.

    and

Many people in this thread have been primarily asking for the latter - they want a mouse interface for iOS (like they have in OS X) in place of the touch interface currently provided.  And there is NO support for that at all.

So for those wanting a mouse that can be used system wide there is no such thing.

For those wanting a mouse in a remote desktop session with a computer that does use a mouse there are a couple of options.

Apple should recognize there is a need out there, and until that is satisfied, we'll have these third-party mice that will only work its own microcosm of apps. Without having Apple to provide broad support for all different types of Bluetooth mice, their very own Apple Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad series would make it easier to implement.

Of the two "compatible" Bluetooth mice, I would recommend the Swiftpoint GT over the Citrix X1, only because Citrix has locked down access of the X1 to their own line of Citrix apps.

Or, we should petition companies like Microsoft to provide support for the Swiftpoint GT in their Office products.  That should raise some eyebrows in Cupertino to acknowledge there's a limitation that needs to be addressed.
