Really, why not read about it instead of uninformed comments?  https://www.engadget.com/2016/01/28/microsoft-q2-2016-earnings/

Yeah it was nonsense, I understated Surface revenue by about $350 million for the last quarter.  It was actually $1.35 Billion.  Lets all hide behind our iPads.  The Surface will never catch on.,.. unless 29% growth compared to 2nd Quarter last year indicates anything.  Wake up folks.  Microsoft owns this party right now and it ****** me off!!!

Where exactly is it being marketed as a PC replacement? Show me one ad that says, an iPad Pro can replace your PC.

The 9.7 ad specifically says the iPad is where personal computing is headed. So personal computing is headed to a device that does not need or use a mouse.

I have an iPad Pro, and no it cannot replace my PC at all. Yes I use a Windows Laptop with a touch screen. And I barely use the touchscreen. Mixing interface mediums never works. But when I need a mouse, I go to my laptop, When I don't I stick to my iPad.  If your work requires a mouse, then pick something that has a mouse.

So what you are saying is having a defined usage standpoint and an interface that answers to that usage standpoint is pride?

It's doubtful, Windows tablets will ever beat Apple's iPads. Namely because people don't like Windows on a tablet.  Its not easy to use. Tablet mode on my Windows laptop is horrible. In fact Tablet mode goes so far as to discourage you to use a mouse on it. Even if it is possible to use it. So even MS with its mouse support understands tablets are geared to be used without a mouse.

So basically no, a mouse on a tablet designed for touch interface still does not make sense. And Apple knows this. It has never marketed an iPad as a computer replacement.

In fact it even suggests heavily using an actual computer to do stuff is recommended. Continuity is based on the premise that an iPad cannot do everything,

And if you need a mouse, Continuity makes it easy to continue the work on a computer that fits those needs.

In other words I can start on an iPad and continue on a Mac or even a PC, and then return to the iPad. making the usage of all the tools I need while working on

    something, easy to access.

I believe we all heard it multiple times when the 9.7" iPad Pro was announced.

Here's Phil Schiller calling it "the ultimate PC replacement."

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GThkoqiFuR0

Of course, SlashGear rightfully disputes the term. http://www.slashgear.com/apples-ipad-pro-is-not-the-ultimate-pc-replacement-2143 2642/

    Nevertheless, there's your evidence.

Now that's funny.  So MS manages to finally scrape past the $1B in quarter sales in the same quarter that Apple did $7B+ in iPad sales, and somehow "MS owns this party"?  Call me crazy, but I fail to see the logic there?  Think I'll hang on to my Apple shares anyway.

Clearly lack of mouse support is driving the minority crazy

That's easy.  Watch Phil Shiller give the Keynote announcing the iPad Pro smaller version.  He says that there are 50 million PCs that need to be replaced and that this machine is made to replace them (or words to that effect).  No kidding.

I have a number of PCs, Macs and devices.  What's great for me is that I can carry the iPad Pro with me all day wherever I go and it will do almost everything I need.  I read the news in the morning, might VPN into a server several times a day when away from the office.  Might take over my work Mac to check some things at night.

The Continuity feature is nice, but sort of weak.  Really, put down the iPad and move to a PC or Mac to look at a spreadsheet?  That just sounds nutty.  I can take over my work PC or Mac with either Screenconnect, Teamviewer, VNC, Splashtop or Google Remote desktop.  But it is not the same as having a pointing device on the device I'm currently using.  In fact Continuity probably took more programming to accomplish than putting a trackpad in the Smart Keyboard.  And will it be used?  Doubtful.  Well, maybe with iMessage.

I can't stand the crappy Android interface or I'd just use that.  You can pair a mouse with all of them...fast, easy.  No big deal at all.  Apple has stolen many features from Android.  Trackpad or mouse support is one that would be worth it.

A PRO model should give you choices.  A power user should get to determine how he likes to point.   I have hope.

My iPad Pro 12.9 has all the processor I need (benchmarked it compares to some of the low power Macbooks being marketed now), has 256 Gigs of storage, and LTE.  I bought it that way on purpose.  But it's missing a little something.

Well you're not reading it correctly then.   This is about iPad Pro ONLY.

Of course he heard it.  Where were you?  It was a momentous statement.  So far it just looks like marketing without substance, sadly.

And he did not mention Mouse support being needed, and it isn't. The IPP has the largest trackpad seen yet, mouse support is neither needed or desirable.

Really, so you broke out the numbers for MS's top model Surface Pro only, correct?  I mean if it's about comparing fairly, and not iPad sales to Surface Pro sales, then surely you are only comparing iPad Pro sales to MS Surface Pro 4 sales, correct?

    e.g. http://www.designntrend.com/articles/75553/20160506/surface-pro-4-vs-ipad-pro-sa les-apple-beating-microsoft-detachable-tablets.htm

(and I'll add that neither company provides sales figures broken out by model - only by product line, so a direct comparison is impossible without insider info).

O.k. Phil does say that in the Keynote. Still a far cry form being fully marketed as as such, but I'll give yiu that one anyway.

So at the end of the day, this is all about what you want. Rather than actual business model sense. It's about you wanting a mouse. Not about what really makes sense for the design and interface they have been going for, for 6 years in 12 different iPads.

You just want a mouse and gosh darn it, Apple should give it to you regardless of anything else.
