That was brilliant! I have been without this printer for 2 days and off to a business trip later this week. Thought I was going to have to go buy another printer!
I scoured the internet, Apple, and Canon all day looking for solutions. Yours was the most clear and lead me to the right procedure.
I followed your instructions to the letter - and when the moment of truth came, a document was sent to the printer and then the ink cartridge level was low (it's ALWAYS something)! So of course - no printing! I didn't have new cartridges, but was able to play around with the existing cartridge, resetting the ink level to "fool" the system it and printed out a perfect document! I was pretty sure it was going to work, because the file sat in the queue without the former message that there were no pages found.
Before receiving your instructions, I did try something another person did which was to delete the Canon iP1800 from the printing list and reboot. That didn't work and I went onto Canon to see if I could re-download the Print file, it came back with a message that there are no drivers for my new OX S El Capitan.
So even though I could pull back up the Canon iP1800 USB file, there was no driver or software per their website.
Thanks for the timely assistance. Hopefully it will work for more experiencing the same problem!
Take care :-)
