Two folders same name Outlook - can't delete or rename

I have done an extensive search on this site and others and can't find a solution and I am hoping for some help.

I use a Mac Mini (late 2012) 2.6GHz Intel Core i7 running El Capitan 10.11.1. I use Safari 9.0.1 as my main browser and Outlook 2011 for email. All software is up to date.

Lately, I have been getting multiple messages from MS - "Two folders in your mailbox have the same name" - somehow I managed to set up a second "Junk" folder that I can't seem to delete and the constant flow of emails continues.

I right click and delete the Junk folder but it keeps reappearing. I tried re-naming the folder but that doesn't work either and it reverts to "Junk". I have searched and tried some of the suggestions but most don't seem to apply to Mac users.

Can anyone offer a permanent solution for a Mac user?

I also have this same problem. I'm using an iPad mini4 and an Acer laptop Windows 10.

I'm not about to ditch my Hotmail iPad account because it's suited my needs for many years.

I did try to run Outlook along side Hotmail but a few problems arose. The main one is the repetitive returns from the Outlook/Hotmail server concerning dual folders with the same 'junk' name.

Another very annoying thing is that if more than one photo is received as an attachment, when trying saving the photos, only one photo at a time can be saved. Normally I had the opportunity to 'save all'. NOT with Outlook on my iPad!

Let's hope that these problems can be ironed out soon.

Remember you 'Geeks' that alter these programs not everyone needs cutting edge progress all the time. Don't fix what 'ain't broke!

I have the same issue. Definitely an issue caused by Apple Mail.

Background: Hotmail set up on iOS 9.2.1 in Mail on iPhone 6s

Problem: When you send mail to junk on your iPhone, Hotmail sends you an automated email: "Two folders in your mailbox have the same name"

It appears that sending mail to junk on the latest iOS, creates a new junk mail folder and this conflicts with Hotmail.

When you login to Hotmail to rename or delete the folder, it is just created again once you send another mail message to junk on an iOS device.

This is an continuous loop and the automated Hotmail messages keep being sent.

Can anyone help with an iOS side fix?

P.S As much as I hate Microsoft, I have had my Hotmail account for over a decade so I'm not going to remove it!
