Q: Pair Apple TV 4 with specific remote

Hello,

I have a atv4 and a atv3 in the same room. If I use the atv3 the remote also controls the new atv4. Is it possible to pair the ate4 to a specific remote like with the atv3? I didn't find a option for this.

    Greetings ffabi,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It seems like you want to unfair a remote from the Apple TV. I would recommend you read this article, it may be able to help troubleshoot the issue.

Use Bluetooth accessories with your Apple TV (4th generation) - Apple Support

On your Apple TV (4th generation), go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth. Select your accessory, then select Forget Device.

    Take care

    Hello mario49,

my Problem is that, the old Aluminum remote from the Apple TV 3 can control the Apple TV  4 via infrared. This remote is not pair with the TV, on the old Apple TV 3 it was possible to restrict the use to one remote this seems no longer possible.

    But thanks for your replay.

Possibly an over-simplistic solution, but if you can place the ATV4 out of sight of the ATV3 remote, or place a piece of card in front of it, its own remote will still work but the ATV3 remote won't.

I have the same issue. The problem is that my old Aluminum remote does not show up in the list of devices under Settings > Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth. In the meantime, I am putting a box in front of the apple TV 4 to block out the IR. I am wondering if there is a better solution. There is got to be a way to disable the old IR Aluminum remote in apple TV 4. Any ideas?

It won't, because it's not Bluetooth, it's infra-red. It's not clear how the old remotes pair: possibly you can pair a remote but not unpair it, so the only way would be to pair a remote which didn't operate the ATV3, assuming you could find one... in the meantime putting the box out of site or the old cardboard trick seems the only way forward. I've had to block other devices from remotes in the past and I keep some black card to do this, it's less obtrusive.
