Now That I Mastered The Scatter And Line Charts (With Your Help) I Advanced Myself To The Pie And Column Chart

  1. Started A New Chart
  2. Went To And Selected The (CHARTING BASICS TEMPLATE) (Looks Simple Enough). I Studied It Carefully. I Replaced The Data With My Mine Data And Chart Worked Fine.
  3. The Table Looks Like A Simple Basic (WITH ROW HEADERS ONLY)
  4. I Reduced The Table To Meet The Needs Of My Data
  5. Column (A) In Sample Is Formatted As (TEXT) No Problem
  6. Column (B) In Sample Is Formatted As (AUTOMATIC)
  7. Best Of My Knowledge I Copied Everything Exactly As Displayed In Template.

  1. I Inserted And Clicked On Pie Chart To Bring Up The (EDIT DATA REFERENCES) After Making Sure I Had Setting At Bottom Selected As (PLOT ROW AS SERIES)
  2. You Can See By My Attachment Everything Was Selected In The Table.
  3. The Numbers Were Displayed In The Pie Chart But I Keep Getting UNTITLED For The NAMES.

Don’t understand why something supposedly simple I giving me a hard time.

Your Suggestion Worked. I Guess You Are Telling Me I Should Have Used The (Headers Table.) I Did Try That 1St But I Guess I Must Have Screwed Up Somehow.

I Started From Scratch This Time And Your Advice Worked Fine But I Noticed After I Clicked On The Pie To Bring Up The (Edit Data Preferences) I Had To Click On Each Row To Make The Column (A) Valid And Workable. I Was Under The Impression All I Had To Do Was Just Make Contact with the TABLE

Hi Nick,

I think we all have developed different habits when we make a chart. There are different ways to do the same thing. However, when I make a chart, I generally find that what works best for me is to first select the cells (in my example, A1:B5 or the entire column A and column B) and then (with the cells still selected) go the toolbar or the menu to insert the chart.

Thanks for the green tick!
