Nov 3, 2015 8:39 AM in response to jlklunenbergby UGADog,Updating OS X sometimes causes problems that a clean install would not. If your case, I would try resetting the system management controller (SMC). If that doesn't work, you may need to do a clean install of 10.11.1.
To reinstall OS X from the recovery partition of your HDD, follow these instructions. To fix a recurring problem, like this, I had to make a back up, make a bootable El Capitan Installation USB drive, install El Capitan and then manually move data from the Time Machine back up to the fresh OS X. I tried migration assistant first but whatever problem was there was reinstalled with migration assistant and I had to start fresh. Migration assistant pulls Applications and their library files and I think my problem was in there.
