Q: Transfering Songs from iPad Classic to iPad AIr

I have an iPod Classic & an iPad Air.  I am having the following issues syncing the devices & transferring the songs on the iPod Classic over to the iPad Air.  I need help with the following:

  1. At this point I do not have any of my iTunes songs at all on the iPad Air but are all on my iPod Classic.  So how do I move songs/playlists from the iPod Classic over to my iPad Air?  I want to move ALL my songs from my iPod Classic over to my iPad Air as I want to stop carrying around both devices however a large portion - nearly 400 songs - were synced from CDs that I no longer have….at least 11 of which (if not even more) are not even available in the iTunes store!
  2. Home Sharing is not working!  I am, in fact, logged-in but my Dad’s play list(s) are nowhere to be found!  I have sent screen shots multiple times in the past regarding this matter but I still have not gotten any response whatsoever indicating why it is not working!
    1. On that note, what is the difference between Home Sharing & Family Sharing anyway?  Would that explain/resolve why Home Sharing is not working [anymore] when it was previously?  If so, how to I switch from Home Sharing to Family Sharing?

I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Home Sharing works as it has always works.  You can share content across multiple PCs on the same local area network as long as a single Apple ID is used on each one.  There are many reasons why Home Sharing operations may be disrupted or disabled - if you want assistance you'll have to post details here.

Have you read and reviewed the options described in turingtest2's Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device user tip?  Some of the tools/methods described there do exactly what you are asking for, i.e., recover both media and playlists from an iDevice.  This cannot be done in iTunes - as previously noted, iTunes only supports one-way synchronization, from iTunes to an iDevice.

What you tell me about Home Sharing does not help!  In the past I have sent 4 screen shots from every stage of the process to Apple multiple times & they have never responded to me at all!  I can not explain anything else about Home Sharing to you that I have not already without showing you the screen shots but why would I bother when you haven’t told me anything I didn’t already know?

I did read that link but the fact of the matter is that I had ALRADY done all of that A LONG TIME AGO so that was of no help whatsoever!  Therefore, nothing anyone has told me has been of any help at all!

If the music exists in your Father's iTunes Library, you can get it from there through Home Sharing.

To do this, make sure, your Father's computer is on the same network as yours. Turn on HomeSharing in his iTunes.

Then from your computer, at the top left corner of iTunes, you should see a small House-like icon, next to the icons for Music, Movies, Tv Shows etc..

    homesharing.jpg

If you click on it, it should show a list of available libraries. One of which should be your Fathers, again assuming it is on the same network, and you have turned on home sharing on both computers with the same Apple ID.

If the house icon is not appearing, then HomeSharing has not been correctly setup.

Once your Father's library is selected, its music should appear in iTunes.

You can then select a song, and right click on it, and then choose import to bring it over.

For Playlists you can open the Playlist, and then click on the [...] icon to Bring up the Import Option.

Where exactly are you getting stuck?

Is my Dad’s computer IS IN FACT on & I am IN FACT is the SAME EXACT network (it is under his Apple ID which I DO IN FACT have entered into the required fields HOWEVER house with a note icon you show is NOT on my computer therefore I CAN NOT ACCESS his playlists - that is what I am trying to tell you!  You say “If the house icon is not appearing, then HomeSharing has not been correctly setup.” but I did the SAME EXACT THING that I had done back in August so how can it not be set up correctly?  Therefore, you HAVE NOT told me ANYTING that I don’t already know!  The question is WHY isn’t it there & how do I get it back - which you STILL HAVE NOT told me!

If you go into the File Menu in iTunes,  under Home sharing, what Apple ID appears there for Home Sharing.  Is it the same one that shows up in the same place on your Father's computer?

We cannot give you a magic solution.  We need to know what you see, or what you have done. You have told us nothing.

You get angry at us because we cannot give you a magic switch to turn on, to make it work.  Yet you tell us nothing about what is going on, other than "I see nothing"

If the Apple ID is them same, then it may possibly be a network or firewall issue between the computers preventing iTunes from communicating.  but again you have told us nothing, so this is just a guess.

Are these screen shots from the same computer?   Lets call it Computer F(ather)

You need to set HomeSharing on the other Computer you are using as well.   Lets call this one Computer Y(ours)

Is HomeSharing is setup on both computers. Computer F and Computer Y?

The HomeSharing icon will not appear if there's no other Library it can pick up on the network.
