ATV 4: Siri Not Respnding

I set up my new AppleTV, and everything works fine except Siri. When I press and hold the microphone button, Siri does not respond to anything I say. Instead, it gives me a list of suggestions of things I can say, such as what is the weather like. Siri doesn't respond to those questions either. The remote appears to work perfectly, otherwise.

When I set up, I turned Siri on and selected US as my location, as well as turning on location services. After discovering the problem, I confirmed these settings in preferences.

Can anyone suggest a fix?

I had a similar, but not exact problem so I'll post my solution here.

First off, I am in Canada and the Apple TV (or at least Siri) was set to Canadian English.

When I pressed the talk button, Siri would listen and could hear me but would just start processing and say things like "One moment..." "Just a few seconds more", etc. without ever acknowledging what I said.

I was able to fix it by going into settings and Siri, and changing Siri's language to US English. This fixed the issue immediately.

Same problem here. Brand new Apple TV 4. I bought it at BestBuy, so when I could not get this functionality to work I took it back. Brought home another one, SAME PROBLEM. Which is puzzling... And you might think points to user error, but I have had Apple devices for years, am an IT pro, and can't believe it is just user error. 🙂

If I disable Siri, then pressing the button does nothing.

If Siri is enabled, pressing [and holding] the button brings up the little 'rainbow' bar, or whatever you want to call it, but it never "modulates" or waves as though it is hearing audio. It just scrolls a list of suggested questions. If I release and press the Siri button again, this goes away.

So clearly the SIRI BUTTON is working. But why won't it hear or respond is puzzling.

I tried pushing the button and holding it down continuously. Nothing. I tried pressing it, releasing it, and when the prompt comes up pressing and holding it down while speaking. Nothing.

I have updated to the latest software, no change.

VERY FRUSTRATING. Should I just take htis one back too? {sigh}

BIZZARO WORLD

I was testing using an HDMI to DVI video cable to my desktop monitor.

It turns out that when I connected it with an HDMI to HDMI connection SIRI WORKED.

Why in the world would Siri be affected by the type of OUTBOUND VIDEO CONNECTION?? Especially since, as I've read, Siri doesn't respond verbally on the Apple TV, what would it matter if you had audio versus just video (HDMI v DVI)???

Anyway, this solved it for me.
