My iphone isn't receiving all of my messages?

I have an iphone 5c. I had this problem about a month ago as well. My phone will receive some of my messages, but not all of them. People will ask me why I didn't respond to them, but my phone never shows that I got a message from them. I don't have any problems sending messages, and people reply so they are definitely receiving them. Sometimes my phone will vibrate as if I just received 10 messages, but no messages or notifications will appear on the screen.

Are they sending messages from an iPhone? If so, this may be your issue. I just had a similar problem, and it turned out that my messages were going to my email address (that I used for my apple ID) instead of my phone. I went to Settings -> Send & Receive -> then tap your apple ID email at the top and select "sign out." Completely exit out of Settings, and then go back and sign back in. I know it sounds redundant and possibly pointless, but it fixed my problem. Also, I had both my phone number and email selected (via check mark) as the default instead of one or the other.
