Nov 5, 2015 1:21 PM in response to gg90eveby alex_h1,Hi gg90eve,
Do you have iCloud Photo Library turned on? It sounds like your computer is trying to upload all of your images to iCloud. Depending on the size of your Photos library, this process could take a considerable amount of time and resources. The articles below explain how the iCloud Photo Library works. It's always a good idea to back up your computer before making significant changes to it.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204570How do I turn off iCloud Photo Library on just one device?
To turn off iCloud Photo Library for a single Mac, go to System Preferences > iCloud > Options next to Photos, then deselect iCloud Photo Library.
If you have Optimize Storage turned on, you might not have all of your original photos and videos on your device. To download the original photos and videos on your iOS device, go to Settings > iCloud > Photos and select Download and Keep Originals. On your Mac, open Photos, choose Photos > Preferences, then select Download Originals to this Mac. Then you can turn iCloud Photo Library off. You can also select the photos and videos that you want to download from iCloud.com.
Take care,

Dec 14, 2015 1:44 AM in response to gg90eveby léonie,The first thing to try is to backup your Mac and to update to the most recent version of El Capitan - MacOS X10.11.2, if you have not already done so. That fixed a few bugs in the Photos.app.
Photos needs to do a lot of background processing when you first open a library, and it is trying to get all the memory it can get. Have you tried to let Photos run over night with the problematic second library open, so the photos model can finish its tasks, while you do not need the mac for other things?
If letting Photo run over night unmolested does not get the mac back to normal, check the Console app, if you are seeing repeated error messages, related to Photos. If you are seeing something suspicious post it here.
Sometimes one single photo or video in your library, that cannot be processed an be holding up the background processing.
Check your problematic library for photos or videos in an unusual format. Create a smart album with the rule "Photo is unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library". This album will show all items in your library that are having an unsupported format. Remove these items from your library by exporting the original files to a folder on your Desktop and then deleting these items from the library.
If all items are supported, but Photos is still hanging, try to repair the library: See this Help page: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht6be18f93

Jan 13, 2016 9:37 AM in response to léonieby etchingartist,HI I tried all that but still the same problem com.apple.photomodel suddenly eats up the memory my library is 14GB and just worked fine last week.. I added a couple of photos and now I can only run it for a couple of min before the com.apple.photomodel eats up memory and all freezes
running latest photo & el capitano software
let it run over night... did not finish'
made sure I turned off iCloud sharing ( was never turned on to beginn with)
rebuild library with repair
I do have multiple photo libraries and had that problem with another one before my solution at that time was to split it so each part was under 10GB and that worked.. will attempt to do this with this one too.
but there must be something else that can be done
Help please....

Jan 13, 2016 11:12 AM in response to etchingartistby léonie,What about:
Sometimes one single photo or video in your library, that cannot be processed an be holding up the background processing.
Check your problematic library for photos or videos in an unusual format.
Could there be any photo or video in your library, that cannot be processed? This can happen, if you are using third-party camera applications on the iPhone. that are saving the photos in high resolution TIFF format, or graphics application with special graphics format.

Jan 13, 2016 11:20 AM in response to léonieby etchingartist,Thank you so much for responding,
this could very well be I used photoshop and dragged images back to the library could have been some tiff among them .. how would I find this .... I tried to create a smart album with the option unable to upload to photo library but it came up blank...

Jan 13, 2016 9:38 PM in response to léonieby etchingartist, thank you leonie.. this was most likely the problem
I could not figure out how to find the damaged image inside the library as the photo application and the com.apple.photomodel only allowed me to work in the library for 2 min before com apple.photomodel did eat up the memory and the system froze. and the smart album approach did not bring up anything.
I used power photos to create a new library and copied the photos from the damage library to the new library this worked as power photo does not open photos to do that job. When I copied I did get error msg that files could not be copied because of their format and the new photo library works without problems.
I wish apple would do a timeout if a photo or video can not be processed and let the user decide to abort the action. this now has happen with several photo libraries I have when they are getting in the 10gb size range ... very annoying and time-consuming

That would be useful indeed. Or an option to start Photos while deferring the generation of Previews or faces thumbnails, like it is possible in Aperture.
