My apple TV keeps on turning on by itself (which turns my tv on too). How do I get it to stop?

So I just got my Apple TV 4th Generation. Everything so far is pretty great. However, last night I went and clicked on the button to put it to sleep which also turns off the TV. Well 60 seconds later it popped back on and turned the TV back on. I did this about 5 times before I finally gave up and just unplugged the HDMI cord so it wouldn't turn the tv back on. Anyone know how to get this to stop happening? Is there a flaw in the software?
