Nov 4, 2015 2:02 PM in response to KentGoldingsby sohail239,I am having the same issue. I went to the Apple Store and they didn't have the diagnostic wire to check it out. So they gave me a new one in exchange. Brought it home, and it still doesn't work. It gets held up to select a language. Can't seem to select any language. Did anybody solve this issue?

Nov 4, 2015 2:09 PM in response to sohail239by KentGoldings,Well, that's not very encouraging!
I spoke to Apple a little while ago and they made an appointment for me tomorrow at the local Apple Store. Apparently there is a remote pairing screen that is supposed to come up first, but it was skipped. The first screen I saw was just the one to select a country.

Nov 4, 2015 2:33 PM in response to KentGoldingsby rfwilk,Although I've not yet seen any mention of this, I found that the aluminum remote for a 2nd or 3rd gen Apple TV works with the new Apple TV. If you have one of these, use it to back out to the main menu, select Settings, then Reset, then Reset All Settings. You should then be presented with the language selection page and the Siri Remote pairing page.

Nov 4, 2015 2:41 PM in response to KentGoldingsby charlieRobinson,I had this same issue but upon reading the manual online I found how to reset the device to factory settings. Doing this downloaded an update and took about 10 minutes for a complete restart and the remote started working. Also, I found that my Macbook Pro w/Retina Mid 2012 had an issue with the remote when it had bluetooth on. Turned it off and reset the Apple TV described above and works fine now. Don't know why.

Nov 5, 2015 6:21 AM in response to KentGoldingsby David Breitigam,Some Apple TVs are coming improperly paired with the remote. Additionally some may start in Chinese and skip the language screens on startup. Unfortunately I can not figure out a way to get past this unless you have an earlier generation remote that works, to take you back to the first screen via the Menu button, then go through the setup screens. After going through the setup screens, you can then pair the 4th Gen remote by getting close to the AppleTV box, then pressing Menu Up-Volume (Going the remote menu options does not seem to help with pairing).

Nov 5, 2015 7:12 AM in response to David Breitigamby KentGoldings,Yes, that seems to be exactly the case. Alas, I don't have an older remote, so it doesn't help me. I'll update this when I get back from the Apple Store.

Nov 5, 2015 9:36 AM in response to KentGoldingsby KentGoldings,The Apple Store employee recommended simply swapping it out for a new one, so that's what I did. I asked him to verify that it worked correctly before I left the store, and he did. All is well.

Nov 5, 2015 6:02 PM in response to rfwilkby vayardo,This worked for me. Upon starting up again from "reset all settings" the first screen allowed pairing with remote.
