App store says to update though I have

App store says I need to update but as you can tell from the attached screenshot I have. It says I need to install Security Update and safari update but the version update it says I am to make shows that they were updated already. When I click Update it brings up a dialog that says Click to Show Details. It's one big loop that never gets resolved. Argh!!!

This procedure will delete certain temporary and cache files used by the software update process. The files are automatically generated and don't contain any of your data. Occasionally they can become corrupt and cause problems such as yours.

Back up all data and read this whole message before doing anything.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n00000s0000068

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with a subfolder selected. The subfolder has a long name beginning with "zyx" and ending with "68". Move that subfolder to the Trash. Don't move any of the other subfolders with similar names. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You may not see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Finally! a solution to the problem with App Store that's been bugging me for many days. In my case, when I clicked the Update button, it would change to "Installing" for a second or two and then back to Update, without doing anything except that the "updates" would appear each time in the section on updates in the past 30 days. Then I would be pestered by reminders that there were updates to apply. This happened only for OS X software that an installer usually installs. Other apps would update with no problem.

Using the Go to Folder approach one needs only to enter: /var/folders/zz/ in the Finder's Go to Folder, then, from the zz folder delete the folder that's inside: zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n00000s0000068

Many thanks Linc Davis.
