Q: Cannot import pictures from iPhone 6 to Photo on my MacBook Pro

Only until recently I had a problem of importing pictures taken from my iPhone 6 to my Macbook Pro (early 2013 model). When I connected my iPhone to my Mac, the "Photo" would automatically open but the "Photo" no longer showed new pictures I took from my iPhone under "Import." Therefore, I cannot import any pictures from my iPhone.

I have all the latest updates on both devices. I don't use iCloud and don't intend to use it in the future. Thank you for your help!

I can't tell what you mean exactly from the OP so let's try to clarify.  Do you mean that you had a problem importing pictures until it recently worked and now it doesn't again?  Or it was working fine until recently when it stopped working?  Did the failures coincide with a significant event like and iOS update?  Does Photos open when you connect your phone and are the new pictures there?  You may need to select them, then try import.

Thank you. Yes, the importing of new pictures from my iPhone 6 to my Mac worked fine until about 2-3 months ago. I suspect that it had something to do with the updates. Before, when I connected my iPhone 6 to my Mac, iTunes would sync. Simultaneously, Photos would open and I could see all the new pictures taken with my iPhone under the "import" tab in Photos. Now, when I connected my iPhone 6 to my Mac, I don't see any new pictures taken with my iPhone under the "import" tab in Photos anymore.

Please let me know if you have tried the troubleshooting procedure outline here If you can't import photos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer - Apple Support  .  You already stated you will not use iCloud so skip the first one (though it is the easiest, but you have your reasons).

If you have tried these steps, I'm kinda at a loss.  I would restart iPhone (press home and power buttons together until Apple logo appears - about 10 seconds) and reboot the computer and try the sync again.

Yes, thank you very much. I read that page and found it of little use.

I tried all the basic steps, restarting, updating, etc... None has worked.

It sounds like iCloud Photo Library is on in Photos Mac even if not on iPhone.  When iCloud Photo Library is on, it does not ask to import.  Have you checked Photos menu Photos > Preferences > iCloud and made sure iCloud Photo Library is not checked?  Maybe an update ticked it on without you knowing.

Thanks again. I know the possible issue linked to iCloud and have double-checked it. I believe that I have pretty much ruled out all the basic fixes, e.g., setting and etc.

I'd try turning iCloud on for 10 seconds and then off again next, but I'm guessing now and will defer to someone that has experienced this problem.

Thank you! I was intrigued that no many other people have the same problem.

Now, when I connected my iPhone 6 to my Mac, I don't see any new pictures taken with my iPhone under the "import" tab in Photos anymore.

I have seen a few cases where other software that is installed is interfering with the import:

    • In some cases the upload to Dropbox that is blocking the import to Photos and Image Capture.   See Clem's post here:  Re: iPhone pictures don't load in Photos
    • In some cases other third-party applications can interfere with the upload, if they install incompatible kernel extensions, for example the  Razer Synapse software, see:

Re: Cannot import photos / I only see a blank page

Wow, this one worked. I went to "Preferences" under the Dropbox. I unchecked "Start Dropbox on system startup" box under the "General" tab, and then unchecked the "Enable camera uploads for Photos and videos" box. Then I re-started both my Macbook Pro and iPhone 6. Of course, the Dropbox was not started following re-starting the computer. After I re-connected both devices, I could see all the new pictures from my iPhone in "import" tab of the "Photos" and I just imported all. Thank you very much!!

Great!  You're welcome.  Thanks to Clem who figured it out!
