Problems with trackpad - Macbook pro

Hello,

I am having problems with my macbook pro trackpad. When I try to move the pointer around the screen with it, it lags or doesn't move very well. I've been using an external mouse and it works ok. Anyway I eventually brought the macbook in for service thinking i needed a new trackpad but I realized when I was showing the technician that the trackpad works perfect when I am on the login screen. It is only once I login under my name does the trackpad start to malfunction. Anyone have any idea what is going on?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

What did the repair tech say about it?

We just tried it on the login screen. He wiped down the trackpad with some alcohol and there was no problem so we thought that did it. When I got home and logged in it went back to the lagging/poor movement

i just logged into my wife's account and the trackpad also worked ok there. Switched back to my account and now mine works fine. this is weird

ill probably bring it back to Apple this weekend. How much does a new trackpad cost to install? the tech who wiped down the pad with alcohol said he saved me $375
