Q: My iTunes on Windows 10 computer won't recognize my iPod Nano "My Music" library that I backed up. What to do?

Reformatted hard drive; have Windows 10. Only backed up "My Music" file. Now iTunes doesn't recognize my iPod Nano library no matter where I've tried to put it. What do I do? Is it possible to sync the iPod to my computer's iTunes, rather than visa versa?

    Hello EricB227,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you have backed up a folder called “My Music” on your Windows computer prior to reformatting your hard drive and would now like to place that folder back into a location on your computer so that iTunes will recognize it and you will have access to its contents.

The following article explains how you would back up your iTunes library and then move it to a new computer (reformatted computer in your case). Because you have already backed up the folder that contains all of your music, you can pick up in the following article where it explains how to move the content to the new computer.

You also asked about moving content from your iPod to the computer directly. You can do this with any purchased music by transferring the purchases. Another solution would be to download these purchases directly to iTunes. Both options are explained in the next article.
