Nov 6, 2015 1:32 PM in response to dfred91by alex_h1,Hello dfred91,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I see that you'd like to access your music in iTunes by using your Apple TV. You do not sync content to your Apple TV, rather you use a feature called Home Sharing to browse your computer's iTunes library. For more information about Home Sharing, including how to set it up, take a look at the link below.
Use Home Sharing to share iTunes content with other devices
Cheers.

Dec 7, 2015 10:55 AM in response to alex_h1by InTheShower,I hope this gets fixed soon. It's sad to have a device that is capable of handling my content and instead it has to act as a glorified HDMI adapter for my computer.
In fact, my computer travels around with me and isn't always home, leaving people at home without that content. Since Apple TV isn't meant to be mobile, shouldn't content be stored on Apple TV and shared to other devices that come and go in the home?

Dec 7, 2015 11:04 AM in response to InTheShowerby Protodd,They had internal storage on only the first generation and then went away from that functionality on versions 2,3 and now 4. Being that its designed and marketed as a streaming media device, I doubt internal storage for personal media ever returns. When I travel, I put certain movies, tv shows on an external drive or iPad/iPhone to take with me while my entire library remains home so the rest can use via homeshare as always. Then I just connect my iPad/iPhone to tv via hdmi adapter and watch on the big screen at the hotel, friends house or office.

Jan 1, 2016 6:21 AM in response to Protoddby budchevy358,The problem here, which has had me frustrated for the last two days, is the fact that when you go to the music app it says to *** music sync with iTunes and that your iTunes store purchases show up here.
I have no music listed, I do have iTunes store purchases and no way to add music. If they designed it not to add music, delete that entire app as it is worthless. If it is supposed to sync, then let it sync and actually show the music it should given the text that is telling you why there isn't anything there in the first place.
Very misleading if you can't actually store anything on there. I replaced an Apple TV 3 simply to move that one to another room. Apple got my hopes up with this message...
I would like to understand more about this but I can't find any information. Very frustrating.

I am not sure why you thought you would be able to store music on it - especially if you had an ATV3. Only the first gen had storage for personal media. All of its competitors don't have personal media storage...
Use Music to enjoy music in the following ways:
- Access millions of songs on Apple Music (requires a subscription). Discover recommendations based on your tastes (see For You), or browse the hottest new music and recommendations from music experts (see New).
- Listen to dozens of hand-curated ad-free radio stations and Beats 1 radio brought to you by Apple Music. See Radio.
- Listen to music from your iCloud Music Library, including music you add from Apple Music, your iTunes purchases, and songs uploaded from your computer, along with your iTunes Match library. Find all of these in My Music. See My Music.
To join Apple Music, go to the Music app on an iOS device or in iTunes on your computer.
Note: In some cases an Apple ID is required. Services and features are not available in all areas, and features may vary by area. You can play Apple Music and Radio tracks on only one device at a time unless you have an Apple Music Family Membership, which lets you play music on multiple devices. If you end your Apple Music membership, you can no longer stream Apple Music tracks or play Apple Music tracks saved for offline play.
You can also use Apple TV to stream music that’s in the iTunes library on your computer. See Stream content using Home Sharing.

Jan 1, 2016 8:31 AM in response to Protoddby budchevy358,I did not think it until seeing the message Apple puts up on the screen when there is no music. Also, it is not about doing what competitors do, but what is logical and providing features to the customer. Then again, without subscriptions (which make it easy) they don't make more money.
"Music you sync from iTunes or purchase from the iTunes Store shows up in your library"
Please tell me how I am supposed to read this. The way I read it is I can sync the Apple TV with iTunes or items that I purchase in the iTunes store will show up there. Neither do. They need to clarify this statement stating "iCloud Music Library", which would then be true - correct?
So I did that, and guess what? It still shows nothing. I still have purchases I have made that do no show up either, which should based on that statement above. Lack of clarity between documentation and what is on the device is what is getting aggravating. If a feature is not there, fine. It should be clear so people don't have to waste time searching what it really means.
I appreciate the feedback.

Music has been a bit of a shambles on AppleTV 2/3 and probably AppleTV 4 - unless you use Home Sharing.
Enable Home Sharing in iTunes on a computer and via Computers icon on AppleTV if not already set up - provided your computer is on and connected to the same LAN you will be able to stream music from itunes.
Apple Music has clouded matters if you'll pardon the pun.
With AppleTV 2 and 3 unless you had itunes match there was no easy way I could find to listen to iTunes purchases or matched items under Music and you have to use Home Sharing via Computers instead for items in your library - quite why you needed itunes match to see your old purchases is beyond me.
Not sure with AppleTv 4 yet but assume you either need Apple music or itunes Match to access Music under Music. Trouble is they use 'Cloud matched' when they mean either that or iTunes Match matched - different things, even if they essentially do the same - very confusing.

Jul 19, 2016 6:21 PM in response to Protoddby Bhangrafied,It has 64GB of internal memory to store games. Like the OP said, the music app itself has indication that you can sync your apple TV with itunes and perhaps put music on it. I do not leave my mac on all the time so home sharing is worthless when the mini is powered off.
Besides, I was at the apple store and their demo models have sample music listed under "My Music" within the Music app. How are they doing it? -
Jul 19, 2016 8:32 PM in response to Bhangrafiedby Protodd,They are streaming from the cloud or from Apple Music http://www.apple.com/music/membership/
the the stores have the same device as you or I. Being a streaming device rather than a storage device you basically have 3 streaming options: from a personal cloud, from the music subscription or from your local library via homeshare...
