I understand your keyboard is not showing that it is connected. Let's see if we can get it working.
One of the simple things you can try is simply shutting down your iMac for about 2 minutes and then power it back on to see if it starts to connected. Take a look at the articles below for more details on troubleshooting issues with bluetooth devices and with keyboards and mice.
