I cant mount a disk partition.

Hello everyone. I'm brand new in a mac sense, so please accept this apology for any misdemeanours in this thread.

Ok. I purchased a Refurbed Mac mini about a month ago and its great. Except that it has an 80gb hard drive of which only 30gb appear to be in use. So, after starting my investigation at 8:00pm (almost 5 hours ago) I have learned the following:-

My hard drive is apparently partitioned into 3 er, partitions.
2 of the partitions are 'mounted'
The remaining partition accounts for the 'missing' space (44gb)

So, I have tried to use Disc Utility to mount the drive, but it doesnt work. There isnt an error message, rather nothing at all happens. Under 'First Aid', all of the options are greyed out, here is what is returned when I request information on the partition:-

Name : disk0s2
Type : Volume

Disk Identifier : disk0s2
Mount Point : Not mounted
Connection Bus : SATA
Partition Type : Apple_KFS
Device Tree : /PCI0@0/SATA@1F,2/@0:2
Writable : Yes
Capacity : 44.2 GB (47,470,133,248 Bytes)
Owners Enabled : No
Can Turn Owners Off : No
Can Be Formatted : No
Bootable : No
Supports Journaling : No
Journaled : No
S.M.A.R.T. Status : Verified
Disk Number : 0
Partition Number : 2

In terms of my expertise, I'm no computer expert, but likewise I'm not the old lady in the office who tuts and looks up to heaven when you try to explain how an ipod works. Please try to keep jargon to a minimum.

Thanks in advance etc.
