Q: I switched from a 6s Plus to another 6s Plus, but after I restored from iCloud backup my old text messages and call history were missing. Why?
I exchanged my 6s Plus for a new one, and I properly backed up the old one to iCloud before erasing the old phone.
The iCloud restore on the first 6s Plus (the one I returned) when I first bought it a couple weeks prior went fine. That restore came from a backup from an iPhone 6 Plus running an older version of iOS.
I restored the new phone from iCloud after updating the software to iOS 9.1 (same iOS version I had on the old one), but even after waiting 12 hours the phone was stuck on a white screen with black Apple logo in the middle. I had no choice but to do a hard reset (by holding power and main buttons until the phone rebooted), then upon rebooting the phone finally proceeded to restore from iCloud with a status bar followed by the familiar sight of my old app icons restoring and updating. I left it alone for another hour or two until the restore was 100% complete.
My text messages and call history are still missing, however. I also noticed that the contacts I added the past few weeks are no longer saved either.
I tried erasing and restoring again, but same result.
The missing messages are mostly still in my Messages app on my MacBook Air, but they're missing from my iPhone.
Please help!
