Q: Connect to iTunes (upgrade to iOS 9.1) problems. (iPad 2)

Yesterday I installed my upgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 9.1. After a couple minutes, my screen went off and instead of restarting, it was stuck on a 'connect to iTunes' screen. I connected my device to iTunes from my Windows PC (new, updated version) and clicked 'restore' when a pop up showed up, just as what people on the internet have been saying. When it said 'preparing my iPad', my iPad screen changed to an Apple logo with an empty bar below it. I thought it was going to download and do the upgrading work. But a pop up message showed up on my PC after some time, saying there was an error (9). I don't know what this means. I then tried to 'update' instead of 'restore', same thing happened. And I can only do these things on one USB port. There are 3 USB ports on my PC but when I connect my device to the other 2 ports, nothing shows.

The one thing I really want to do now is just to go back. I realized I haven't backed up my files and I've figured that a lot of users have been complaining about losing their stuff after an upgrade because no backing up work was done. Is there any way for me to exit this 'connect to iTunes' screen without upgrading to iOS 9.1?
