WHY IS MY GARAGEBAND SLOW?

I have the 2014 higher end MacBook Pro 15" with a quad-core i7, 16gb of RAM, and a good Nvidia dedicated graphics card and garageband still lags? Seriously? What's going on? Do I need a dedicated sound card? Would Logic Pro X have better performance? What makes garageband so slow?

It just doesn't make sense that Apple's (basically) fastest MacBook would lag on even an integrated application like GarageBand.

I would appreciate any advice/help. 🙂

When is GarageBand slow? Do you get "disk too slow" warnings? Is it unresponsive? Does it take too long to bounce a song? Is each and every project causing lagging or only your most recent project?

Do you have any third-party plug-ins installed? How much free storage do you have on your system drive? Are your GarageBAnd projects on an external drive? If yes, how is this drive connected?

For a project with a single piano track this should not happen.

Do you have any other applications running in the background, that might be hogging all the memory?

Quit all other applications and restart the Mac. Is GarageBand more responsive, when it is running on its own?

If not, you may have incompatible software installed, that is interfering with the system.
