Phone no longer unlocks watch

I've had an Apple Watch since July - it's always worked perfectly. From day one I've always been able to unlock the watch using the phone. I got a new iPhone 6S a few weeks ago, also no problems. Paired the phone, everything worked, unlocks, heart rate, everything.

Starting two a couple ago (after updating to 2.0.1) the watch stopped unlocking when the phone was unlocked.

I've tried rebooting both devices (multiple times and at the same time). I also unpaired the watch from the phone and re-paired it. This fixed the problem for a couple of days, but starting yesterday it no longer unlocks again.

I've also found the watch has started randomly locking itself - which basically renders it useless as I no longer get notifications.

Any ideas before a revert to not wearing a watch again?

Bizarrely I just tried toggling the preferences in the iPhone watch app to disable and then enable the unlock code and after a couple of attempts its working again.

Thanks for the suggestion on support, but unfortunately I'm in the Caribbean for a few months so going to an Apple Store is not an option.

I'm wondering if it's having difficulty with the change in humidity going from A/C at night to humid/nothing during the day. I'll see how long it keeps working this time.
