Transferring data from an old iMac

Hi people,

my parents' old white 2004 iMac G5 is obsolete now and I've bought them an iPad instead - they've got a load of stuff they want me to transfer : Contacts, Keychain items and Web shortcuts and I'm not sure how to do this as their old mac won't support iCloud.

They don't have an Apple ID yet so I was going to set that up for them online without connecting to iTunes so they're not bound to my iMac or anything, but is there a way of saving the above data to their account so that it loads onto the new iPad when I set it up?

hop someone can help!

cheers

Due to the obsolete status of the unit, many things will not be able to simply transferred over.

- I would suggest connecting the older iMac to a more recent Mac and transferring the data, then you can save it a separate account and set up the sync. You can do this using target disk mode, though I am not too sure if that is a feature the older iMac has. It's worth a shot. Share files between two computers with target disk mode - Apple Support

- Another option could be using an external drive to copy the items over from the iMac to a more recent Mac and transferring the data, then you can save it a separate account and set up the sync.
