Mac Pro (Early 2008) replacing Optical drive

I'm replacing the Apple Superdrive in my Mac Pro (Early 2008) with a new blu-ray drive and have the following questions:

1) The original drive has an Ultra100/ATA or PATA (IDE) interface and is no longer available. All of the new optical drives have SATA interface so can I use a SATA drive by connecting to one of the SATA connectors on the main board?

2) Will the new drive be able to be opened by using the eject button on the keyboard?

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), (Early 2008)

Yes and yes.

It seems you have:

  • Internal SATA left angle connector to straight connector cable (for installation in Pre-2009 Mac Pro Models)
  • You will also need

4 Pin Male to 15 Pin Female Power Adapter Cable (for installation in Pre-2009 Mac Pro Models)
