unable to open my macbook pro, all I get is an icon of a file with a question mark in it.

After being away for 4 days I returned home to check for my emails. I powered up my computer and an image of a file appeared with a blinking question mark appeared. I cannot open my computer.

That means that a bootable disk can't be found. The didk may have failed.

- Try resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM

- Try starting in Safe Mode

- Boot to Recovery and repair the startup disk
