I keep getting the round icon that circles whenever I close or try to start another process

Whenever I close or open a document, or change from one thing to another, I get that revolving icon that looks like a fan in color. It can take a long time before it lets me go where I want.

I am using Yosemite 10.10.5 on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012).

Please advise

Susan

Hi Susan ,

That is generally a sign of too little Memory and/or too little free space on the Disk.

Open Activity Monitor, Show:>All Processes, sort on CPU%, see if anything using too much CPU% when this happens, click on Memory tab, do you have unused Memory?

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
