Very loud STATIC from speakers instead of sound.

I get only STATIC when I try to listen to anything on my iPhone.

IT started this afternoon & it even happens when I'm typing because I have keyboard sounds turned on.

Any quick fix for this or is this a warranty job?

Try to restart/reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on this device.

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  • Press and hold on the Home button
  • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings

If this does not help, restore your device to factory settings. Note that this will erase the data from your device.

Take a look this Apple Support article: Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support.

previous suggestion on forum worked for me. The static was whenever a sound of any sort was made - music, alerts, alarms, etc. etc. Simultaneously hold down the button on the top of the iPhone that turns it on and off along with the home key at the lower part (bottom) of the iPhone case. Keep holding them both down until the Apple logo appears. Wait a minute or two after releasing both buttons for your password login to your phone appears (assuming you've got a lock on your phone). The horrible static appeared right after I downloaded the "new" OS version 10.0.02 on my iPhone 5c.
