Audio recording playback on both Pear Note and Word (Notebook view) is too fast.

I have Yosemite 10.10.4 and running Pear Note which allows audio recording along with text or slides that is updated and when I record, playback is way too fast. I tried it on Word (in their Notebook View you can audio record) and its the same. Is there some setting I can't figure out on the Mac?
