What version of iPhoto do you have?
I have iPhoto version 9.2
You can get to 9.4.3 via these updaters:
1 - update to iPhoto 9.2.1
2 - update to iPhoto 9.3
3 - update to iPhoto 9.3.2
4 - update to iPhoto 9.4
5 - and finally to iPhoto 9.4.3
I have iPhoto 8.1.2, would i need to upgrade to 9.1.0 as a precaution and then upgrade to El Capitan? I am currently at 10.6.8
Do I need to upgrade iMovie as well? Currently at 8.0.6 (821)
Upgrading from iPhoto v8 to v9 requires a purchase. Apple no longer sell iPhoto in any form, so, unless you can find iLife11 installer disk on Ebay or somewhere, there is no way to upgrade. Even then, there's no guarantee how long these updaters will remain available.
Thank you Terence. If I paid for an update to Lion or Mountain Lion would I be able to install the iphoto 9.1.0?
Or do I need to find the actual iLife 11 installation disks?
Unless you've obtained some version of iPhoto 9.x from the App Store previously you won't be able to upgrade to El Capitan and get iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store. There has to be some record of you purchasing iPhoto 9m in some form in Apple's databases. Buying an iLife 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer does not quality you to upgrade to 9.6.1. 😟
Does this mean I am stuck at OSX 10.6.8 and iLife 9 (iphoto 8.1.2 & imovie 8.0.6 (221)) ?
I really would like to upgrade my iMac to El Capitan so that I can stay current with other applications that I use.
Appreciate any suggestions, I am willing to spend some money to do this.
No, it means you can go to El Capitan but will have to use the new Photos app. You will not be able to obtain and use iPhoto 9.6.1.
You'll be able to get the new version of iMovie from the App Store.
Thanks Old Toad and sorry for not responding sooner.
I tried those updates and ran into a brick wall. Unless I had purchased an update of iPhoto somewhere along the line, I still couldn't upgrade iPhoto and get it to work. After several "chats" with Apple support over at least 3 hours, I was given a redemption code for iPhoto as long as I upgraded to Yosemite. After checking that my CS5 would still work with Yosemite, I (very) reluctantly upgraded the OS again.
Yosemite has given me access to Photos which has imported all my iPhotos so I am now able to access them again. So, no need to use the redemption code they supplied. Apparently no-one at Apple knew that Yosemite would resolve the problems - go figure!
Lordy - what a process!!!!
Keep that redemption code in case you every decide to upgrade to El Capitan and want to continue to use iPhoto. You should be able to use it to obtain 9.6.1 which will work with El Capitan.
next time launch App Store and sign in and check PURCHASES. You should be able to download iPhoto 9.5.1 The last Mavericks compatible version.
Thanks Old Toad I will do that!
Hi Smokerz - I've tried that but the App store says it is not available in the Australian App Store. Anyway, with Photos working I'm not so deesperate to get iPhotos working now. At least I can download my phone etc now!
