Q: Issues with Netflix on Apple TV 4

Hi,

I was just curious if anyone else was seeing issues with Netflix on the new Apple TV 4. Here are some issues I have seen so far.

  • Netflix randomly hangs on launch. Specifically happens when I select a User and then after that it will hand. My family has 4 users so usually I can get in under a different user, but once I have an issue with a user, then I need to log out of my netflix account and log back in and then it works.
  • Videos on Netflix keep pausing. We will be watching a show or movie and then randomly the video will pause like its buffering. I have to exit from that TV show or movie, then select a different video, then go back into the original video i was watching and it will usually work. But sometimes it only works for a few minutes and then happens again.
  • When I select a TV show and then select see more episodes, it will display the last episode as I was watching as Epsiode 1. For example, if I am on episode 5 of a show, the episode list will show 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 6. Usually after a few seconds it will change back to showing the correct episode.

I am not seeing these issues on my Apple TV 3 or on my Playstation 3. I realize this product is very new and the Netflix app is different than what was on the Apple TV 3, so I'm hoping these are just some early bugs that will get resolved. Most issues I can live with, but the randomly pausing video is starting to get pretty annoying.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Same thing here, I have followed every kind of recommendations, I think that the only one I'm missing is an exorcism .. The fact is that too many persons are reporting the same problem and not only here, so there must be some problem either with the APTV 4 or with the Netflix app.

Given a few dozen problems versus millions of working systems your conclusion that it's an Apple/Netflix problem doesn't seem that plausible.

Can you describe your environment, the problems you're seeing  and enumerate the steps you've taken to solve those problems?

As far as my issue goes, I think it's a problem with the way they built the Netflix app for the Apple TV 4.  I think it probably has something to do with they way they try to leverage IPV6.  I was only having issues with Netflix and only on my new Apple TV 4, works fine on all other devices, including netflix on my Apple TV 3.  After I turned off IPV6 on my router everything started working correctly.  It only affected the one application (Netflix) and only on Apple TV 4.  All other streaming applications including HULU worked fine without changes.

I still experience this issue with Netflix on my Apple TV 4. I don't often have buffering problems as much, but still have logging in problems a few times a week. Sometimes signing out of Netflix and signing back in fixes it, but if that doesn't work then I need to delete the Netflix app and reinstall it and then it is fine. I do not have IPV6 enabled so that is not my issue. My Playstation and Apple TV 3 are still rock solid with Netflix, and all other apps seem to work fine on the Apple TV 4.

It's not only a few dozens, probably you are not looking in another forums .... There is a real problem between APTV4/Netflix. Actually, I unpacked my old ATV3 and I'm using it only for Netflix.

It doesn't matter whether you look in other forums or not. It's a ratio or percentage and only a few dozen from the hundreds and thousands of posts made here (which are all posts about some problem or other and don't include those with no problem at all) is a very small ratio.

Yes sir Winston, it matters, what doesn't matters is if very few or very much devices are experiencing the problem, it's a real problem that was not present before APTV4 and it is very anoying. Maybe it's the way that Internet is being accessed or it could be any other problem. Trying  to ignore it for sure is not going to correct the situation.

The problem for the OP has been resolved.  And it's asserted that nothing was done, it just went away.  Another poster resolved the problem by disabling IPv6.  Note that IPv6 is not an intrinsic problem.  It all works for me (obviously).  So you can take the position that every problem that presents itself is Apple's fault or you accept that some changes will reveal problems in your setup.

I asked you what specific problem or problems you were having and what you had done.  No one can do anything but speculate that you have a local configuration error unless you provide specific evidence to the contrary.

There are millions of ATV4gen units in the field.  Some configuration problems are going to crop up.  Even a thousand distinct complaints is less than .001% of the installed base and I'm confident that number is closer to 100 than 1,000..

I suspect we are struggling to explain the math here.

I have the same problems.. Disabled IPV6, tried all the suggestions. I still get errors 152, 1008,  Based on my debugging, the problem lies with Netflix App on Apple TV.  Is Netflix working on fixing this?  or is Apple Tv working with Netflix on fixing this..

I am having similar issues with my New Apple TV 4th Generation. IT is sat next to Apple Timecapsule and buffering most of the time. The 3rd Generations works fine. Sometimes it is even refusing to play Movies from iTunes. I thought it was something to do with Wifi i.e. your neighbours interference with the setup. Thats the only other thing I can think off.

Wrong. My network is fine. My wifi is fine. My ISP speed  IS 30mps, so that's fine. Which means it's the Netflix app for appletv4 or the appletv4. I'm having no issues streaming Netflix over wifi with PS3.

I'Be had this issue since I got mine for Christmas.  The only temporary fix I've found is deleting the app and re-logging in.  It ***** because I have 4 accounts on my Netflix and I can get into all but mine, the circle pauses and sticks.  Tried restarting Apple TV, going back to factory settings.

Yes. The Netflix app has crapped out on both of my Apple TV 4s. I get error codes saying internet connection but my speed tests show fine. My downstairs box is stuck at sign in. My bedroom box acts like I will watch a show and then same errors. Every other app such as YouTube works fine. I've rebooted boxes, rebooted my network. Same problem. I have to AirPlay from iPhone to watch now.

    Hello KA757,

Are you doing anything special with DNS? If so, can you try just using the DNS from your ISP? When the app says it cannot connect, but you obviously have internet access, it's saying that it cannot connect to the server. That may be due to bad information from DNS, or because Netflix is blocking your IP for some reason.
