how to change icloud mail screen appearance

I've always been a gmail user and really dislike the appearance of my new icloud mail account screen on my PC - Windows 10 laptop

Is there any way to change it: i.e.

Can I make the font smaller in the column with the sender & subject - it's is too big and bold! There is nothing in settings that is of any use.
Can I reduce the size of the preview screen so that the sender & subject are next to one another (like in gmail) instead of on top of each other/in two lines?

I know this sounds confusing, but I can't think of how to describe it. I guess I just want it to look more like gmail - not so BIG

Have you checked your Preferences under Mail in top tool bar to see what options you have turned on? If not I would suggest going into Mail>Preferences, and play around with them to see if you can get a look you like better.

I'm not sure where you mean by the "top tool bar" I've clicked on the settings "cog" on the bottom left of the icloudmail screen folders bar, but there's nothing useful there--when you click on the "preferences" and then the "general" tab.

The only "top tool bar" I can see is above the preview screen - but it has only the reply arrowicon, the flag icon, the trash icon, folder icon & compose icon. Should I be able to see more than those 5?
