AirDrop slow in iOS 9

I often transfer large amoumts of photos with airdrop between my iPod touch and iphone(both 5th gen). With iOS 8, I could transfer HUNDREDS of photos within a couple minutes. Now with iOS 9.1, transferring only 15 photos takes almost a half hour, and sometimes it crashes halfway through. Anybody know how to fix this, or speed it up?
