icloud backup not working since update to ios 9.1

Ever since updating my 5s to ios 9.1 the device will no longer backup. Manual backups to icloud don't work either "backup could not be completed". Looks like there are thousands of people with the same problem. Has anyone had an actual fix?

I understand that your iPhone is not backing up as expected after updating it to iOS 9.1. We know that situations like this can be frustrating, but we are here to help.

A message says my backup could not be completed

  1. Make sure you're connected to the Internet with Wi-Fi.
  2. If possible, try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network.
  3. See if you have enough iCloud storage for your backup, and get more storage if you need it.
  4. If you need more help, contact Apple Support.
