Q: Does fcpx Handle AVCHD from the Panasonic G7???

Hi,

The panasonic Lumix G7 has a format called AVCHD which is it's raw HD and 4k format. It has another 4k and HD format that is HD mp4 and 4k mp4.

1. My question is - can we bring AVCHD into fcpx and can we edit it?

2. Also, thoughts on having 1920x1080p footage in the same timeline with 4K footage or this 4k mp4 footage, or the HD mp4 footage and then exporting h264 or to youtube and vimeo?

Thanks, joe

    wrong info, Joe:

Panasonics, as any other consumer camera, does not NOT store 4k insinde AVCHD; which is, for years, the 'standard' for fullHD, with a max bitrate of 28mbps (4k usually comes in 100mbps) .... therefor: mp4. And far from 'raw'

In short, using here a Pana FZ1000 with same rec options:

    fully supported in FCPX.

    only difference:

in AVCHD files, you can select parts on import; mp4/mov files are imported 'as is' only. Hint: hit pause every here&then when recording onger pieces.

btw: superb quality, what the Panas deliver ... both 4k and fullHD

My G7 4K works and imports just fine.

You are going to need a fast computer, drive/s and lots of space.
