No problem connect from sound bar to Opitcal on main TV sound will go through HDMI lead.
Also in Apple TV remote settings you can train remote to change volume on sound bar .
Cheers

Nov 7, 2015 2:09 AM in response to Sandduster2by Snapper-Ian,As Brian explains:
1. Apple Tv 4 connects to your TV via hdmi
2. ( this is not the important point - your TV needs to have an optical output - from this you plug in your optical cable to your soundbar )
so the hdmi cable is providing the optical sound to your TV - Your TV is then passing this via the optical cable to your soundbar.
If your TV does not have an optical output then you can't do it.

Nov 8, 2015 7:49 PM in response to Snapper-Ianby LincolnLowell,The new Apple TV 4 only connects to your "TV" through an HDMI cable and the optical output of the TV 3 is missing. Unfortunately the HDMI signal from the Apple TV 4 to your "TV" will NOT be sent on as 5.1 surround audio to your receiver--only stereo. My receiver has optical inputs but no HDMI so I am considering an adapter I found on Amazon which will split the signal into (1) HDMI (for the TV) and (2) optical (to send to the receiver).
The Amazon unit is the---
ViewHD HDMI Audio Extractor | Optical Toslink + L/R Stereo Analog Converter Outputs | VHD-H2HSAs which sells for around $27.00 and will work with Dolby Digital however the Apple TV 4 supports Dolby Digital Plus. Does anyone know if DD+ is backward compatible to DD? Will current Netflix, etc. movies play in 5.1? Also if a recording is in DD+ will it transmit to the receiver optically? Has anyone used this extractor with a TV 4?
