Q: impossible to install el capitan, failure, needed to switch back

Hello

I have a mac book pro 15', end 2008, intel core 2 duo 2,66 Ghz, 8 GO memory, 10.10.5

Was proposed to load new OS El Capitan

Download fine

Installation fails, freezes at language choice that does not appear, then message takes 24 minutes, than failure and ask to retry.

Did 5 times, same result.`

Had no choice but to reinstall all from Time capsule

Works now (still slow though!).

Is my computer too old?

Why then are we pushed to install the new version if this is no more compatible.

No issue on one year old imac.

Thanks for help and advice

Cheers

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), no start after os x installation

Your Mac appears in this list, so rest assured it is compatible with El Capitan: OS X El Capitan - Technical Specifications

There is the possibility that the installer you downloaded from the App Store is damaged. Did it take an unusual long time to download it? Let's say 3+ hours? Anyway, trash the installer from the Finder and download it again. You can find it in the Finder > Appications > install os x el capitan. Make sure you have a stable, reliable wi-fi connection- or disable wi-fi on your Mac entirely and connect an Ethernet cable - and redownload the installer.

Also, please find the application called Disk Utility, also in Finder > Applications and then > Utilities. Onced launched, find the "macintosh hd" drive in the left column. Proceed to click "repair disk permissions" and "verify disk"

If any errors appear that cannot be resolved, please let us know. Be aware that there are errors that are safe to ignore: Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore - Apple Support
