i push cmd-s and it opens single user mode but exits straight away help meeeee

Look in /private/var/root for one of the following:
.bash_profile
.bash_login
.profile
.bashrc
They do NOT exist by default for the 'root' account, but if one was created, it is possible that it is causing single-user-mode to exit.
