ibook G3 and Airport extreme card

Question

ibook G3 and Airport extreme card

Recently got an Airport extreme card, which I wanted to use in my ibook G3 (800MHz). The card appears to be too short for the available slot, still can slide it into the bay, however I cannot attach the antenna cable on the back of the card as either the card is now shorter or the cable is too short.
Will the Airport extreme card work in the IBook G3? And how do I get this antenna cable extended?

No, the Airport Extreme card will not work with your iBook - it is not just a matter of cable length - there is a different slot and everything. The Airport Extreme card only work with iBook G4's.

Hopefully you have not broken the airport slot in your iBook. You need to purchase an Airport (non-Extreme) card for the iBook G3. This would be about €90

Hi, Thomas.

Several people have reported that they permanently damaged their logic board by trying to install an AirPort Extreme card into a G3 iBook. I hope yours has not met that fate.

You need an original AirPort card; here are possible sources:

Thanks a lot guys. Don't think that I did any damage, tried to install the card, which did not fit, but I never powered up the ibook, which means everything should be still ok....

Now I need to try to return the received card to apple...see how that goes.

Amen for someone who sees something doesn't fit and actually backs away. There are a lot of people in my line of work who see it doesn't fit and they shrug and find a way to make it fit... and then scream and yell when it is broken.

(yes I have heard that someone actually yelled at a coworker of mine because "we sent her the wrong sized cd" and that her computer was broken... she said that she had to "cut" the cd to make it fit... into a square. figure that one out.)
