What version of Logic X (10.07, 10.1, 10.2)?
What version OS?
What Audio interface (make and model, usb, firewire, thunderbolt connected)?
What mic pre (if not built into interface)?
What mic?
How are you connecting mic to audio interface (XLR, unbalanced jack, balanced jack)
Logic 10.2
I'm still running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5
My audio interface is the Focuserite Scarlett 2i4 (USB Connected)
I'm using the Shure Sm7B Mic connected with an XLR cable
The funny thing is, I was recording a couple weeks ago just fine and now it isn't responding correctly. This also happened when I plugged into my macbook to see if it would do the same. I just purchased the Scarlett 2i4 because I thought it was my M-audio interface, but the problem is still there.
Common issues that would explain your results are:
- Microphone defect
- Cable defect
- Preamp defect
- No phantom power provided
- You record from the wrong device, like the internal microphone instead of the dedicated audio interface.
- Your microphone preamp gain isn't set correctly.
Did you make sure none of these apply?
Cheers,
Jazz

Just to add:
The Shure Sm7B is a dynamic Mic so NO Phantom power required in this case. Always leave phantom power off unless it is required by a condenser microphone. Hardware can be damaged if Phantom power is left on and cables/mics are carelessly plugged In or unplugged.
Recording from the wrong device. (good point)
Go into - LOGIC'S - Preferences/Audio and set the Scarlett as both the Input and Output device. Use Logic's Preferences not the computer's. You will be monitoring from the Scarlett, speakers and/or headphones will be attached to the Scarlett.
Recording Gain is set on the Scarlett, not in Logic.
