1920x1080 resolution not working

Hello,

I'm running Mac mini 2012 with El Capitan and I have a problem with my oldschool BenQ E2200HDA display. This display's native resolution is 1920x1080 and it only has a VGA connector, so I bought Apple's VGA to MiniDisplay Port adapter and thought it will work ok. But after connecting it, the maximum resolution i can go is 1680x1050, when I try to switch to 1920x1080, it only gives me a black screen. I feel like I've tried everything, the problem is obviously not in the VGA cable, because when I try to connect it to another Windows laptop or desktop, it works correctly. I also tried the SwitchResX utility and I found out that it can display not only lower resolutions than 1920x1080 but even higher ones (1920x1200, 2560x1440 etc.) and the only resolution that doesn't work is just the one I need. And today I got a new VGA to MiniDisplay Port adapter, but the problem remains.

So I will be very grateful for any advice, thanks.
