Making book in iPhoto 11 (9.2 version). Photo and Title of book on the cover. Doe title automatically appear on the spine of the book? Can't see any means to view it or to remove it should I wish to do so (which I do not).

You can see the title on the spine in the Preview of the book. It will be the same title a the title on the front cover.
To preview your book ctrl-click or right click onto the empty background in the all pages view. Select "Preview Book".
