Q: iMessage to my wife is delivered to myself

When I write and send an iMessage to my wife using messages, it is not delivered to her but shows up as incoming to me a few seconds later. We have both made sure that we have only checked our own respective phone number and email addresses. Anyone knows a solution?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Don't use the same Apple ID for iMessage.

So, if I sign out of our AppleID in the Messages preferences window, does that have any other implications, or only for Messages? And do I have to do the same on my iPad and iPhone?

Each of you should use your own Apple ID for iCloud, iMessage & FaceTime.

We have had a common Apple ID for 10 years and never had the problem before. So it must be something else. If I take out the account from the message preference window, I am out of iMessage it seems. I understand that having your own and unique Apple ID might solve it, but this has other consequences.

    What other consequences?

Well, things have changed, you have Continuity and iCloud.

The only place where you use the same Apple ID is in Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID > here to share your purchases.

Even that there's an alternative way: Family Sharing, read: Family Sharing - Apple Support
